StashNote Chrome Extension
TL;DR
StashNote is local-first. Your notes are stored only in your browser and are never transmitted to any server. No account, no analytics, no third-party tracking — ever.
Overview
StashNote is a local-first note-taking extension. It does not require an account and does not use a remote backend service to store your notes.
Information We Process
StashNote may process the following data inside your browser:
- Notes you create (title, content, tags, folder assignment, timestamps)
- Folder names and note organisation metadata
- Optional lock/password-related settings used by the extension
- Extension settings (for example, default folder and new-tab behaviour)
- If you use the context menu save feature: selected page text, page URL, and page title
Where Data Is Stored
Data is stored locally in your browser using:
- IndexedDB — notes, folders, and related metadata
chrome.storage.local— extension settings and quick-save temporary data
StashNote does not sync your data to external servers by default.
How Data Is Used
Data is used only to provide extension functionality, including:
- Creating, editing, organising, searching, importing, and exporting notes
- Opening notes in the side panel or tab view
- Saving selected webpage text into a note when you trigger the context menu action
Data Sharing and Selling
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not share your note data with third parties.
- We do not transmit your note data to a remote server as part of normal extension operation.
Chrome Permissions and Purpose
StashNote requests only the permissions needed for its features:
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|

| sidePanel | Show StashNote in the Chrome side panel |
| contextMenus | Add right-click save action for selected text |
| activeTab | Read current tab title/URL when saving selected text |

Data Retention and Deletion
Your data remains in your browser until you:
- Delete notes/folders in the extension
- Clear extension/browser storage
- Uninstall the extension
Security
StashNote uses local browser storage mechanisms. No system can be guaranteed 100% secure, but the extension is designed to minimise exposure by keeping data on-device.
Children's Privacy
StashNote is not specifically directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children.
Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. Updates will be posted in this file with a revised effective date. Continued use of the extension after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
